Mongolian Children's Project

Two boys in Ondershil Sum

Children bear the brunt of a collapsing social structure
in Mongolia

The severe climatic conditions of Mongolia create incredible difficulties for homeless children who roam the streets of Ulaanbaatar.
Maitreya Charity aims to lift the burden these children carry of struggling merely to survive.

Kindergarten Project
The kindergarten in Mongolia is the equivalent of primary schools up to the age of 8 years. It comes under the Government Education Authority, but the parents have to contribute to the food the children are given. This costs €12/$15/£10 a month for each child, which poor families cannot afford. But without these early years at kindergarten, when the children join the secondary school at 8 years they are already behind.
Last year we renovated two rooms in the kindergarten nearest our centre, and now provide care for 35 children between the ages of 3-8 years. In the kindergarten they are given three meals a day, in a warm, caring and learning environment. We provide warm clothes and boots for the children. Because the children are being cared for it means the parents can look for work without worry. Older children can go to school instead of being used as child minders for younger siblings.
I still need sponsors for these children - €12/$15/£10 a month for each child

Hot meal project
25 more children are provided with a hot meal on the way to school, as well as copy books pencils etc. and as necessary warm clothes. Rinpoche's Center also provides a quiet, warm room for the young people to do homework.

Batsukh and Barbaator, two young Mongolians who have benefitted from Maitreya Charity Sponsorship

Through the presence of Geshe Lhawang Gyaltsen,

life has greatly improved
for an increasing number
of children and young people

Sponsoring
We continue to sponsor many young people through college and university.
This year one young women who had been sponsored for four years qualified as an accountant. She now has a job and supports her whole family. This was my aim in sponsoring her.

Without an education youngsters are trapped in a cycle of unemployment and poverty. We sponsor families to keep children in school. We provide books, school equipment, and warm clothes for the winter months when many cannot go outside for lack of suitable clothing.

Sponsors are needed in the West for as many individuals as possible, giving them the opportunity to attend school with other children.
