Women head most of the poorest families.
Many of their children suffer from malnutrition
and are always hungry. The poorer people in Mongolia have no means
of finding employment --
there is none.
It is in the winter that the poorest families
suffer most when temperatures can drop to -40C and -50C.
There is great difficulty for these
women who, under the Soviet Regime would at least have had the security
of
shelter, work and food .

Panchen Otrul Rinpoche regularly visits
the Womens' Prison when he is in Mongolia. He has responded to requests
by providing a Temple at the Prison to encourage the Women's Buddhist
Practice.
In Gachuurt a GARDENING
PROJECT is improving the diet of families and providing a source
of income from the sale of excess produce.

Sewing Project
Women are being taught to sew, and thus renewing a traditional Mongolian
skill. Making articles to be sold provides income, builds self-esteem,,
and eventually the women might become
self-sufficient, working with their own machines directly from home.
We are hoping to expand this
project in the future. A designer from Ireland visited in the autumn,
2005, to help with designs.
We have brought back to Ireland (and the West) some beautiful hand
made jackets and purses.
